Des Moines Biergarten — a family friendly pop-up German-themed beer garden is returning to Des Moines next week. The Biergarten will be open at noon every Wednesday through Sunday beginning May 17 through to the end of October.
The ownership group behind Dough Co. Pizza successfully teamed up with Water Works Park Foundation to launch Des Moines Biergarten last Fall. Set within the mature tree canopy east of the Lauridsen Amphitheater in Water Works Park, the Biergarten is returning bigger and better for a full season with an expanded footprint and schedule. A portion of the revenue generated from the Biergarten will be donated to the Water Works Park Foundation.
What’s new for 2023
A chef-driven German inspired menu will be new for 2023. Along with favorites like bratwursts, hotdogs and pretzels, other items like German potato salads, currywurst rolls and more will be available. Live music, yard games, large picnic tables and hammocks are also features of the Biergarten.
“After a hugely successful first season of the Des Moines Biergarten, we’re excited to bring an improved experience this year,” said Alec Davis with Orvis Horatio Group. “Along with steins of German and local beer on tap, we can’t wait to offer a new and improved menu all season long.”
“Last Fall, the Des Moines Biergarten proved to be a big hit so we’re excited it’s coming back with an expanded footprint,” said Sam Carrell, Executive Director of Water Works Park Foundation. “The Biergarten provides another opportunity for visitors to connect and engage with the park.”
